Speed & Improving your recommendations

Firstly, apologies for the speed of the site - we’re aware the site can be deadly slow at times. We’re working on fixing this on two fronts: firstly our web team is optimizing code (yawn), but we’re also spending lots of money by upgrading our current servers (Amstrad CPC 464’s) with loads of shiny new servers (vaguely more exciting!)

A lot of the reason behind why the site is currently a touch slow is because when users download out desktop application they have to sync up the data in their iTunes library (meta tags, play counts etc) and sadly our Amstrad CPC 464 can’t cope with all that pressure, as well as the pressure of serving the website all at the same time that I’m loading a tape game into it.

While we’re talking about the desktop app - I think it’s worth a reminder that the The Filter for Mac and Windows is the best tool to quickly improve your recommendations and make sure that you don’t get recommended items that you already own - it’s a tiny download and it lets you build instant playlists in iTunes, Windows Media Player or Winamp.

To create a playlist in iTunes - select a song (or three) and then hit Cmd + 1. A playlist of similar music will be automatically generated for your listening pleasure.
